Panthers News · Madison County Tournament Recaps

The softball team dropped a tough one to PH in the championship game, 11-1. Jessie Noone went 2 for 2 for our only 2 hits. In the opening round we defeated APA 12-2, Tenasha Stephens was the winning pitcher. In the semi finals our Lady Panthers held on for a huge 1 run win over rival Alex. Kelsey Hughes got the win.

In the baseball tournament, we lost the opening rd game to Frankton 13-1. We then bounced back to win twice on Friday @ 2 different locations. In the 1st game we defeated APA in a ten run rule game. That game was played @ Alex. In the 2nd game we boarded the bus & headed to Anderson’s Memorial Field & defeated Liberty Christian, also by 10 runs. The team & staff survived wind chill readings in the low 30’s to pull off the wins Friday night. On Saturday we traveled back to Memorial to play Lapel in the 5th place game. It was a very poor performance as we headed into the bottom of the 7th inning trailing 12-4. We took advantage of a few costly errors & came up with some timely hits allowing us to score 9 runs in the inning to pull off the 13-12 victory. We became the 1st team in tournament history to win 3 games & not win the championship. Drew Wells was named to the all tourney team. In the Lapel game he went yard twice.

In track, both the boys & girls team struggled in the brutal weather & finished 8th. Sammy mireles finished 6th in the 300 H, Trevor Holliday finished 7th in the 300 H, Chase Duncan 6th in the SP, & Alex Mireles 6th in D.

The tennis team dropped all 3 matches in the tournament & fell to 0-4 for the season. The team is still searching for leadership & chemistry in the lineup. With our veteran leader, Coach Hoppel, we will right the ship sooner than later

The golf team will play in the county tournament on May 4 @ Edgewood CC. The team is currently 0-2. Coach Hobbs is looking for top performances from Bobby Harrell & Tanner Hobbs while the rest of the team gains valuable experience.
